Benefits Of Grapefruit

There are many Health benefits to eating grapefruit. However, there are also just as many side effects to eating it as well. Please make sure before starting any grapefruit program you see you Doctor and make sure it is safe. I will go over the benefits and the side effects in this article.


Pink and red grapefruit have lots of Vitamin C, Lycopene, Potassium and Choline. The National Institute of Health states eating red grapefruit can benefit blood lipid levels, especially Triglycerides for patients with Atherosclerosis and is linked to reducing the overall risk of heart disease.

Grapefruit Pith

The grapefruit pith (the white sponge part that separates the fruit segments) are loaded with fibre, vitamins and antioxidants that decrease high cholesterol and blood sugar.

Juice Of Grapefruit

Grapefruit juice is good for high cholesterol, hardening of the arteries, cancer, psoriasis and weight loss.

Grapefruit Seed Extract

The extract is good for curing bacterial, viral and fungal infections. It can be used as a vaginal douche to treat yeast infections. It can also be used for ear and nasal infections, a mouth rinse for sore throats, breathe freshener and a dental rinse to prevent gingivitis. Some people inhale grapefruit vapours to help retain water, to cure headaches and to help anxiety, depression and can treat lung infections.

Some research suggests that post menopausal women who consume a quart or more of grapefruit juice daily have a 25% to 30% increased chance of developing breast cancer.
